Keep Asking Dumb Questions

Children have a voracious appetite for learning about new things and are incredibly curious about the world around them. They are constantly asking questions.

There is no such thing as a ‘dumb’ question for to a 5-year-old.

The more curious they become, the more questions they ask, the more they learn and the more inspired they become by the world around them. Just watch a child playing, writing a story or painting a picture.
However, as we get older, in the main we become less curious and the consequence of this is that we have less to inspire us and therefore we stop learning about new things.

Michelangelo, considered one of the greatest artistic geniuses who ever lived, was known for his incredible work ethic. But what really drove his work ethic was that fact that he was curious about everything. He was a painter, sculptor, poet, architect and engineer, and not by chance. His profound interests in these disciplines led him to explore them until he decided to perfect the art of each.

As Walt Disney said ‘Ideas come from curiosity’

Just study the lives of some of the world’s greatest innovators, entrepreneurs, explorers, engineers, scientists, medics and artist and you will see being curious is one of the key ingredients that made them successful. Alexander Fleming, Pablo Picasso, Marie Curie, Tracey Emin, Leonardo da Vinci, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Neil Armstrong have asked countless questions in their quest to learn new things. And in turn they were inspired to create a new piece of art, make a scientific discovery and fly to the moon.

There’s a huge lesson you can learn from all of these people, and it’s really quite simple. Let curiosity drive you because there you will find inspiration.

Need more evidence? One of the greatest minds ever to grace this planet, Albert Einstein, contends that curiosity got him further than intelligence ever did. He once said “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”

So, keep asking those ‘dumb’ questions.
